Job Hunting.. How to market yourself

Goal

The goal of this presentation is to let you know of the common mistakes that people make when applying for job and giving you tips on how to effectively market yourself in front of employers

Common Mistakes

Not fullfiling the job requirements and applying.

Websites like rozee.com have made it easy for people to select multiple jobs and apply. People don’t even read job descriptions.. For testing jobs, people of sales apply, and sometimes development people apply too.You ask them if you want to do testing and the reply is “i will do it but i am interested in development”

Why is this important?

The employer gets the image that the person is non-serious. They call you and you say.. “Oh yes i think i applied”, “Ah this job is in pindi, sorry i am from karachi where it was clearly written in the job description”.

Taking your resume for granted

Sit back and think.. It is a document that represents who you.. It is your first expression. Take it seriously if you want to be taken serious. But be sure.. A good resume will only land you into job interview.

Spelling mistakes

False experience (Only if the employer checks but if he does)

Overstating your capabilities

Cover Letters

Your application might look incomplete to some employers without it

A description of what you want to do and where you want to be and how it aligns with the job that you are applying for

Mistakes

“Sir, I need a job.”

Avoid common templates.. i.e. employer should get feeler that cover letter was written for this specific job. In some jobs it might work though

Google Goals

• They tell that you can search on google.. Goals that were written by some english literature major.
• Keep the goals focused..
• “To seek a challenging position in the field of information technology”
